WHAT WILL THE
DAY COVER?
Gear up for indoors....
Develop and / or add to your RCI toolkit to run engaging and effective sessions in a climbing wall setting. We will chat about how to adapt all this to an outdoor setting during the day.
We will look at these parts of the syllabus, Organising Sessions, Management of Participants and Knowledge & Demo of techniques and will explore these areas:
How to avoid injuries and warm up appropriately
How to run a bouldering session safely & appropriately
How to get a group into their harnesses effectively
Fundamental Climbing movement
Effective games/activities to engage learners
Teaching Principals
Methods of teaching belaying with a range of devices
Pros-cons of using auto belays
How to adapt all this to an outdoor setting
Essentially this will look at how to engage folk effectively and safely for the whole day. This will be a very active day!
Crag Rigging
Abseiling setups, group climbing, personal safety problem-solving are all important parts of a Rock Climbing Instructor syllabus alongside placing your own protection when lead climbing. Essentially this is a technical day at an outdoor crag, there will be plenty of opportunity to practice the RCI rigging systems.
These days are an opportunity for you to ask as many questions as you want and to practice the areas of the syllabus that you feel you need to. The ratio is kept deliberately low so the precise structure can remain flexible to best suit your needs.
