This is a simple beginners guide to how to use timing and pacing in the hills and mountains when you're navigating. It's a set of basic techniques that require practise and can be built upon one you've become confident in them. Timing and pacing are techniques that allow us to measure distance on the map and then apply them on the ground by using either our stride or for longer / steeper terrain using a stopwatch.
