SO WHAT'S IT
ALL ABOUT?
Lying on the southern fringe of the High Atlas is one of Morocco’s premier climbing destinations - the magnificent Todra gorge. Here under year round sunshine, you will find a climbing experience like few others, an enticing blend of sport, adventure and cutlure.
Climbing has been going on here since the late sixties and it’s easy to see why with it’s superb variety of climbing from single pitch roadside sports routes to long multi pitch adventures! All of this lies just yards from the roadside in one fo the most spectacular limestone gorges of Morocco’s Atlas mountain range.

This is more than a sports climbing trip it will feel more like an adventure to a remote and exciting destination in Africa.
The aim is very simply guided by you, but we will explore as much of the climbing areas as we can. The broad plan will be to search out the best routes, the sunshine, and soak up some of that laid back North African atmosphere.

In Sept / October it is still very warm in the sun, which there is lots of. With all these trips the weather is the determining factor and may allow us to follow a broad plan or force us to to change. It’s always an adventure, but the key factors are that we stay safe, enjoy the week and cover as much rock as we can. I prefer to keep the plan very open to allow us to make decisions compatible to the conditions on the crag.
This is suited for those looking to being guided and develop their climbing skills. It could be that this is all fairly new to you and you just want to go climbing outdoors in a warm climate. Are you’re keen to work up to leading your own routes and need that extra confidence and skill to help you achieve this? Maybe that next grade doesn't feel within your grasp and you need help to reach it? This is all about helping you towards these…..
WHAT TYPE OF ROCK IS THERE?
The whole gorge is a red limestone which is compact and sticky!
WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?
The best time to visit for sport climbing is from Feb to May and Sept to Nov, as during this time the air temperature is much cooler and ideal for climbing and generally rain isn't a problem.
Daytime temps in October, for example, can reach as high as 30ºC with crystal clear blue skies. The gorge is situated at 1400m resulting in significant temperature differences between sun and shade. The narrow confines of the gorge can make it feel chilly at times.
GETTING TO AND STAYING IN MOROCCO
I don't arrange your flights, however you can fly to Marrakech from most UK airports and meet me at the airport.
Accommodation will be in a Riad / hotel style in shared rooms where appropriate.
WHAT STYLE OF CLIMBING IS IT?
The crags range from single pitch bolted sports routes in low to high grades to long multi pitch adventure routes that combine a mixture of traditional and sport techniques.
WHAT'S THE PLAN?

We will meet at Marrakech and as most flights arrive in the evening we will spend the first night in this amazing city. On day 2 there is a 7 hour journey to Todra, which in itself is a stunning trip over the Tichka Pass in the Altas Mountains. For the next 5 days we'll seek out the best rock for our week. A last evening meal together will see us have an early departure for the days drive back to Marrakech and our waiting flights.
